Kejriwal slams BJP over One Nation, One Election proposal

New Delhi, Sep 19 (Agency) A day after the Cabinet approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday shared an old video on social media featuring party convener Arvind Kejriwal, in which he criticises the idea of holding simultaneous polls, alleging that the BJP wants to conduct all elections every five years to enjoy 4.5 years of travelling abroad. In a video, Kejriwal said, “If elections are held at the same time, they (BJP) will have a free run for four and a half years. They will go to Singapore, Japan, London, the U.S. For four and a half years, they will enjoy, and after that, they will come back, reduce the price of your gas cylinder by 200 rupees, and ask for your vote. Never let ‘One Nation, One Election’ happen.” “One Nation, One Election should never happen because regular elections keep politicians under control,” he said emphasising that elections should be held every month to ensure that leaders remain accountable.

“The amount you (BJP) steal is less than the cost of holding elections,” Kejriwal claimed stating that there should be One Nation, One Education instead of One Nation, One Election. Education should be the same for everyone. “The education a rich person’s child received should be equivalent to that of a poor farmer’s child. Build the same kind of excellent schools for all. Give everyone a good education. ‘One Nation, One Healthcare.’ The poor and rich should get equal healthcare. Improve all hospitals and provide good healthcare for everyone,” he said. “It’s only during elections that they come under control. That’s when they knock on your door and sweet-talk you. If you ask for the moon, they’ll promise to bring it to you. Sometimes there are assembly elections, sometimes Lok Sabha elections, sometimes panchayat elections, or municipal elections. Through these elections, they stay connected with you,” Kejriwal noted.
