Bengaluru, April 4 (FN Agency) Ahead of the May 10 assembly election in the state, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said the infighting-stricken Congress will not come to power. “The Congress will not come to power, and they are fighting for the seats which they cannot win. That party is fighting for power and the CM’s post, and not doing anything good for the people of Karnataka. The utterances of Siddaramaiah indicate what’s happening inside the Congress party,” he told reporters here. “KPCC President DK Shivakumar, wherever he goes, seeks blessings to become the CM, and on the other hand, Siddaramaiah has been claiming himself as the CM. It is the people who make the CM, but these two leaders are not in their mind. Both are dreaming for the CM’s post, but their dream will never become reality,” he added.
Looking at the developments unfolding in the last four days, Bommai said the BJP will get an absolute majority in the coming assembly poll. “Unexpected results wouldwill pour in some constituencies. The rank and file of the party are confident of the BJP getting a full majority in the May 10 poll,” he said. Replying to a query, Bommai said the list of candidates for the assembly election will be released on April 8. “The selection of candidates has been done based on reality. The state committee meeting will be held for two days starting today, and after that, a list of candidates will be sent to the central party leadership.
The same will be vetted on April 8, and released on the same day,” he said. Reacting to senior Congress leader Siddarmaiah expressing his wish to become the chief minister again in an interview with a national news channel, Bommai said the Congress leader may have wished, but nobody knows the pulse of people. “It will be known once the results are out. With the people’s support one can become an MLA. What Siddaramaiah has told was nothing new,” he stated. Asked about some BJP legislators quitting the party ahead of the poll, Bommai said those who are sure of tickets have left, but this will have no bearing on electoral prospects of the BJP. “There are 125 MLAs out of which there are aspirants in some places. Those who are sure of not getting the tickets have left the party. It will have no bearing on the BJP or the assembly polls,” he said.
