Bengaluru, May 3 (Agency) Former JDS leader and Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti on Tuesday joined the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a visit to Karnataka. Horatti had decided to join the BJP after his meeting with former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and BJP National President JP Nadda last month.
He had ended his association with JDS before Union Minister Pralhad Joshi had hinted at his joining BJP. Horatti was a prominent face of the JDS from north Karnataka. Since 1980, he has won MLC elections seven times on the trot and has served as the education minister. Surprisingly, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy has not objected to Horatti joining the BJP.
