“Govt will scrap guarantees if people don’t vote for us”: Karnataka Cong MLA

Bengaluru, Jan 31 (FN Agency) Karnataka Congress MLA HC Balakrishna has threatened people that if they do not vote for Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, then the state government will scrap the guarantees. “If people make Congress win we will continue with guarantees or else we will scrap the guarantees because people have rejected it. We will surmise that the temples hold more value for you over the guarantees and scarp them. Using that money we will build temples too and ask votes in the name of temples, isn’t it?” the Congress MLA questioned. Balakrishna said he has had a talk on the issue with state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “Do you (people) want guarantees or grains of rice?

I have told CM (Siddaramaiah) that because of the guarantees you have given, people should make us win, or else we will scrap the guarantees and will use these funds for development,” he said. These guarantees encompass various welfare measures, including 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti), monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi), and free distribution of 10 kg of rice to every member of a Below Poverty Line (BPL) household (Anna Bhagya). The guarantees also include a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 for unemployed graduate youth, and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders between the ages of 18 and 25 for two years (YuvaNidhi), as well as free travel for women in public transport buses (Shakti).
