Govt refraining from debate on China issue: Cong

New Delhi, Dec 9 (Agency) The Congress on Thursday accused the BJP-led government at the Centre from running away from a debate on the India-China border situation, in the ongoing Winter session of the Parliament. The party also claimed that all the Opposition parties are in favour of discussion in the House as it is a serious matter. Addressing a press conference, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “Government has been ignoring the India-China issue since last 22 months. We have been demanding a discussion on this issue since then. This is a very serious and sensitive matter.”

“Today, we gave notice in the Rajya Sabha on the LAC issue but it was not accepted by the Chairman. Why the government is away is running way from a debate on this issue ? All the Opposition parties are in favour of discussion on the Indo-China border situation,” the Congress MP said. He added, “We have also suggested that the Defence Minister should call all leaders of the Opposition and brief them if they don’t want discussion. But, this has also not happened.” On being asked about the party’s dismal performance in Gujarat Assembly elections, “The result in Gujarat is deeply disappointing for the party. It’s time for introspection.” The Congress won 17 Assembly seats out of the 182 constituencies in Gujarat. In the 2017 Assembly polls , the party had won 77 constituencies.
