Koppal, Sep 10 (FN Bureau) Amid swirling rumours that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will step down ahead of High Court Order on his prosecution in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case, Senior Congress leader and financial advisor Basavaraj Rayareddy publicly expressed his desire to take over the state’s top position, stirring fresh political tensions within the Karnataka Congress. Rayareddy’s remarks came during a media interaction on Monday, where he questioned the possibility of his own leadership bid. “Anyone can become the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Why shouldn’t I?” Rayareddy told reporters, responding to questions about growing claims from Congress leaders for the Chief Minister’s role. He emphasized his qualifications, highlighting his repeated electoral victories and seniority among Lingayat MLAs.
“I am one of the senior-most Lingayat MLAs, having been elected eight times. In the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, I have the highest number of wins. If the party decides to select based on community or seniority, I am a strong candidate,” the financial advisor asserted. The senior party leader also defended other Congress figures, including veteran RV Deshpande, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, and Minister MB Patil, who have all hinted at their own aspirations. “If Siddaramaiah steps down, it is not wrong for these leaders to be considered,” Rayareddy added, stressing that the race for the Chief Minister’s seat was open. Basavaraj’s statements add fuel to speculation about Siddaramaiah’s future, reflecting the growing discontent within the Karnataka Congress ranks. With multiple senior leaders eyeing the top post, the internal power struggle seems poised to escalate, potentially reshaping the political landscape in the state.
