Farmers’ rail roko program enters 3rd consecutive day forcing railways to cancel 35 trains

Chandigarh, Dec 22 (Agency) Rail roko agitation of the farmers and farm labourers which began on Monday to press for their demands entered its third day on Wednesday. The agitators are demanding waiving of farm debts, implementing the recommendations of the Swami Nath Commission, cancelation of cases lodged against farmers during the agitation against the three farm laws, compensation and government job to the family members of the farmers who lost their kin in the agitation at the Delhi borders.

The farmers sat in dharna at various sites blocking the rail traffic under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee. The rail roko across the state has caused severe inconvenience to the passengers and they have been left high and dry on how to reach their destinations. It also caused loss of revenue to the Railways. Reports reaching here said the Pathankot-Jalandhar section, Bathinda-Muktsar-Ferozpur section and Amritsar-Delhi and Jammu-Jalandhar section remained closed due to farmers’ protest. According to the information received from the Railways, about thirty-five trains have been cancelled.
