New Delhi, May 20 (FN Representative) Former East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sunder Aggarwal on Monday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India suggesting ways through which the voter turnout can be improved in the National Capital. “The Election Commission spends crores on publicity for more voters to turn up to exercise their franchise. However, many voters go out for leisure on voting day. The maximum number of voters exercising their franchise is a concern among all,” Aggrawal said in his letter. To curb the issue, Aggrawal gave five-point suggestions to the commission so that the voting percentage remains high in Delhi.
The suggestions are since the elections in Delhi are on Saturday, most people have already planned a weekend holiday. So, to curb this, tourists from Delhi shouldn’t be allowed to book any hotel or residency at any place in the country. The bookings already made should also be cancelled with immediate effect. Every polling booth should have tents outside for the voters to prevent direct heat and medical facilities must be made available. Cool drinking water and Air coolers has to be arranged. Wheelchairs for persons with disabilities and their voting on a priority basis must be ensured. All seven seats in Delhi are going to the polls on May 25.
