Dimapur traders call for bandh in protest against tax

Kohima Sep 12 (Agency) The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) on Sunday called for a total Business Bandh in Dimapur on Thursday, September 16 to protest the inaction of the Nagaland Government against rampant illegal and multiple taxation by various groups as well government agencies, affecting the business community. According to a press release issued by DCCI President Akashe K Zhimomi said that the one-day total shutdown would be the first phase of their protest by the business community against inaction of the state government and its machineries over illegal taxation.

Along with shops and business establishments, the total shutdown will also restrict entry of goods transport into Dimapur as a protest against various DMC taxes and fees at check gates collected on GST items. It said that the alarming increase in ‘illegal taxation’ by various groups has crippled the entire business community in the state’s commercial hub in Dimapur. Despite highlighting the issue in the media, DCCI expressed regret that the state government has neither taken any concrete action nor given assurance on the issue of illegal and multiple taxation. Further, it also urged the public to lend their voice and cooperation as the issue of illegal and multiple taxation was affecting every citizen of the state. The DCCI also warned that the business body would be compelled to resort to further an extreme course of action if the government failed to address the genuine plight of the business community.
