Hyderabad, Sept 17 (FN Agency) Ousting BJP from power in 2024 will be the most befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi to mark the centenary of his election as the Congress President, AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge said on Sunday. Addressing an extended meeting of the Congress Working Committee, Kharge called upon his party men to set aside personal differences and go all out to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming elections to five states towards the year-end and the Lok Sabha polls in 2024. “We must prioritise the success of the party in the upcoming elections in five states – Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram- by putting aside our personal differences,” Kharge called upon PCC President and CLP leaders attending the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at a star hotel here. He said the Congress has got from Telangana a renewed strength and a clear message. “We leave Hyderabad today with a firm commitment; to win not only in Telangana, but in all upcoming elections, thus relieving people from miseries of BJP’s misrule,” he said.

“The people are looking for an alternative and our victories in the Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka elections are clear proof of this, “ he said in his speech. He called upon the Congressmen to work unitedly. “We must exercise self-restraint and avoid going to the media with statements against our leaders or party, which will harm the party’s interests,” he said adding only through unity and discipline can the Congress defeat its adversaries. He said the Congress is working with the goal of defeating the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and forming an alternative government in the country. “ Our goal must be to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and work diligently to form an alternative government in the country”, he said, adding “We are all aware of the challenges that lie ahead and these challenges aren’t just those of the Congress Party; they concern the survival of Indian democracy and the preservation of Indian Constitution”.

He also reminded the party leaders that the Congress also needs to be battle ready for possible Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, He said the Congress governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have pioneered a new model of Social Justice and Welfare and such schemes needed to be publicised. He said during the last 10 years under BJP rule, the challenges faced by ordinary people have multiplied. The Prime Minister refuses to address the concerns of the poor, farmers, labourers, women, and youth. “Actually, he cannot look beyond himself”. “In such circumstances, we cannot remain mute spectators. We must unite and overthrow this dictatorial government in order to save our democracy,” the Congress Chief said.
