CPI(M) slams Centre over MSP for Kharif crops

New Delhi, June 10 (Agency) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday slammed the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre over Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Kharif crops and termed it “anti-farmer’. “Modi PR and spin project a pro farmer MSP hike! It barely covers inflation and rising costs of inputs. Pro mega corporates, anti-people, anti-farmer Modi policies continue to impose greater miseries,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote in a tweet.

The statement of Yechury comes two day after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the increase in the MSP for all mandated Kharif crops for marketing season 2022-23. Government has increased the MSP of Kharif crops to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce and to encourage crop diversification. The MSP for paddy has been hiked by Rs 100 to Rs 2,040 per quintal for 2022-23 crop year.
