Congress MPs ignored appeal of farmers’ unions for ‘coronation’ celebrations

New Delhi, Jul 23 (Agency) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab state president and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann on Friday slammed the complete absence of all Congress MPs from Punjab in Parliament, stating that for the ‘coronation’ celebrations, the Congressmen ignored the appeal of the farmers’ organisations. “This is not only a violation of the ‘public whip’, but also an insult to the ‘annadatas’ who are making sacrifices at the borders of Delhi,” he said.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Bhagwant Mann said he had moved an adjournment motion in Parliament for the fourth consecutive time during the ongoing Monsoon Session, but the power-drunk Union government again rejected the adjournment motion, which was unfortunate. Bhagwant Mann said while guarding the ‘public whip’ issued by the farmers’ organisations, he protested as much as he could against the black laws in favor of the farmers inside and outside the Parliament. He said the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to protest from the streets to Parliament till the black laws are repealed.

Accusing the Congress of taking a double stand on the agricultural laws, Bhagwant Mann said for the past eight months, the farmers had been forced to make sacrifices on the Delhi borders in its fight for survival; while the Congress, on the other hand, was engrossed in coronation celebrations. “Celebrations do not look good in such circumstances,” he added. Mann said therefore, the Congress should come out of the intoxication of power and sincerely support the farmers in the ongoing battle against the Union Government, inside and outside Parliament; till the battle is won in favour of the ‘annadatas’.
