Cong takes dig at BJP, AAP over Bhalswa landfill fire

New Delhi, Apr 28 (Bureau) The Congress on Wednesday took a dig at the AAP government and BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) over the Bhalswa landfill fire, accusing them of “negligence”. “The Bhalswa landfill fire, on the heels of four major fires at the Ghazipur landfill in April alone, has created a dangerous situation as it has not only spiked air pollution, but also poses a grave health hazard to the people. Neither the Arvind Kejriwal-led government, nor the BJP-ruled MCDs, seems to be concerned about these recurring fires,” Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary said.

He said that due to the “indifference” of the MCDs and the AAP government, landfill fires have become common occurrence, but strangely, the CM is keeping mum about rising air pollution in Delhi. He further said both of them have spent crores of Rupees for reducing the mountains of garbage at the three landfill sites in Delhi—Bhalswa, Ghazipur and Okhla, but the height of the landfills have risen with the passage of time, not reduced. He said that both these parties are “incapable” of taking effective steps to dispose off the landfill wastes to eliminate grave health and environmental hazards to the people, Chaudhary added.
