New Delhi, June 9 (Agency) The Congress on Thursday slammed the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre over Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Kharif crops and accused it of betraying the farmers.”Modi government has once again betrayed the farmers of the country over MSP for Kharif crops for 2022-23,” Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote on twitter.Attacking the ruling BJP, Surjewala further said, “Far from increasing the income of the farmer, the pain of the farmer has increased a hundred times.
“The statement of the Congress spokesperson comes a day after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the increase in the MSP for all mandated Kharif crops for marketing season 2022-23.Government has increased the MSP of Kharif crops to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce and to encourage crop diversification.The MSP for paddy has been hiked by Rs 100 to Rs 2,040 per quintal for 2022-23 crop year.
