New Delhi, Aug 8 (Agency) By-elections to seven Legislative Assembly seats in six states will be held on September 5, the Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday. These assembly seats across six states – West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tripura, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand – have fallen vacant due to various reasons. “The Commission has decided to hold by-election to fill vacancies in 7 Assembly Constituencies of 6 States i.e. Jharkhand, Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,” the EC notification read.
Apart from two seats in Tripura – Boxanagar and Dhanpur – the by-polls would also take place in Dumri (Jharkhand), Dhupguri (West Bengal), Ghosi (Uttar Pradesh), Puthuppally (Kerala) and Bageshwar (Uttarakhand). “The Commission has decided to use EVMS and VVPATS in the bye- elections in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMS and VVPATS have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines,” the EC said. The last date for filing the nomination papers is August 17. The results will be declared on September 8.
