New Delhi, Jan 30 (Agency) The BJP on Sunday announced to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in Manipur on its own as the party released the list of 60 names. The saffron party exuded confidence that it will form the government in the North Eastern state. “The Central Election Commission Committee has decided that we will contest on all the 60 seats in Manipur,” BJP’s Manipur election in-charge Bhupender Yadav said at a press conference here. He further said the ruling BJP government fulfilled all the promise that it had made in the last Assembly polls. Yadav along with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra released the list of 60 names at the party headquarters here. As per the list, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Sing will contest from Heingang Assembly seat. Manipur Minister Letpao Haokip who jumped ship to BJP from National People’s Party (NPP) last month, will contest from Tengnoupal assembly constituency.
“We will form the government in Manipur with two-thirds majority,” Patra said. Notably, NPP, an ally of the BJP government and part of the saffron party-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), is also contesting the polls at its own. Assembly elections in Manipur will be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
