BJP gathering support for NDA’s presidential candidate

Chennai, June 23 (Agency) BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi and State party president K. Annamalai on Thursday called on AIADMK coordinator O.Panneerselvam and joint coordinator Edappadi K.Palaniswami in their respective residences in Chennai to seek their support for the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu. The BJP leaders initially met Mr.Palaniswami in the presence of his supporters and senior AIADMK leaders K.P. Munusamy, K.A.Sengottaiyan, D.Jayakumar, M.Thambidurai and others at his residence. Then, they called on Mr.Panneerselvam, who was flanked by his supporters Manoj Pandian, R.Vaithilingam and others.

Later, Mr.Annamalai in his tweet said he along with Mr.Ravi met Mr.Palaniswami and Mr.Panneerselvam on behalf of BJP national president J.P.Nadda and requested the AIADMK leaders to attend the nomination filing of Mrs.Droupadi Murmu. The meeting assumes significance, as it was held hours after the AIADMK’s crucial general council meeting at Vanagaram in Chennai that ended in chaos. Mr.Panneerselvam and his supporters staged a walkout from the general council meeting after slogans were raised against him. Mr.Panneerselvam and Mr.Palaniswami were locked horns over the single leadership issue. The general council meeting recommends dispensing dual leadership and reverting back to a single leadership.
