Akhilesh launches party membership campaign

Lucknow, July 5 (FN Agency) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched the membership campaign of the party and termed it as an effort to save democracy. He himself also took the membership of the party. After launching the membership campaign, Akhilesh said, “Our effort will be that we reach the maximum number of villages and houses in Uttar Pradesh. We will take the policies, programmes and decisions taken by the party from time to time among the people.” He said through this membership campaign the party will reach every section of the society. “The need is to make people aware that SP people are coming forward to save democracy and they should cooperate and help SP and get associated with it,” he said. Akhilesh said that initially those who contested assembly elections from Lucknow have been made the members of the party.

“We expect them to take this campaign forward. We are preparing to reach every city, village and house. This programme will run continuously,” he said. He said that along with UP, the membership campaign will also run in states where SP has its units, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.Regarding reorganisation of the party, the SP chief said it will be done once the membership campaign is over. “Senior leaders will go in districts and divisions and will make members there. I will go to villages. It’s an ongoing process and this campaign is to save democracy,” he said.Akhilesh also attacked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, speaking about the Yogi 2.0 government completing 100 days in office he said “Why are they telling the achievements of 100 days? They should tell the achievements of 5 years and 100 days. Their achievements got exposed when transfers were made in the department of Deputy Chief Minister while he was on tour,” he said.

He said that it seems that someone else from behind the curtains is running the government. “Corruption and injustice are at its peak in this government. Have the promises made in the manifesto fulfilled. It seems that forces behind the curtain are running this government,” he said. The SP chief once again termed Enforcement Directorate (ED) an ‘Examination in Democracy’. “Earlier Congress used to put agencies like ED and CBI against opposition and now BJP is also following the same path. The government in Maharashtra is that of ED. They misuse the government agencies,” he said. Akhilesh said that SP is not in favour of the Agnipath scheme and the old system of recruitment should be restored. “There should be a permanent job. I have suggested that if the government hikes corporate tax then no budget will be required,” he said.
