New Delhi, Nov10 (Representative) Day after indulging in a political slugfest with the Centre and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of cleaning the Yamuna, the Delhi government took a U-turn on the matter on Wednesday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the responsibility to clean the river rests with the Delhi government. The chief minister also added that he will not pass on the buck to neighbouring states. “I don’t want to pass on the buck to any state. The responsibility to clean the Yamuna lies with the Delhi government,” Kejriwal said on Times Now’s summit. “It was one of our poll promises and I would like to reiterate that cleaning the river Yamuna is still on our agenda.
We will accomplish it by the next assembly election,” he announced. Centre and opposition in Delhi had slammed Kejriwal government over toxic froth found floating on the Yamuna. However, the AAP had counter blamed the neighbouring BJP ruling states for the dirty status of Yamuna. AAP MLA and Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Raghav Chadha had said on Tuesday that the toxic foam found floating on the Yamuna river was a gift to Delhi the governments Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. He had claimed that that about 155 million gallons per day of MGD wastewater from Haryana and UP merged into Okhla Barrage carrying industrial waste, untreated detergents and ammonia which led to the formation of the dirty frothing.
