Pune / New Delhi, Apr 6 (Bureau) In a survey conducted ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it was found that 93 per cent of women voters in various districts of Maharashtra expressed that it is important to elect people’s representatives and to carry out development work. While giving information about the survey on Saturday, Deputy Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council and president of Stree Aadhaar Centre Dr Neelam Gorhe said that 93 per cent of 200 women voters knew significance of elections and why elections are necessary for democracy to survive. The women participants felt that elections should be conducted in a transparent manner and they should have their own vote.
In the survey, women also expressed that they should have the right to express themselves, said Dr Gorhe. The survey also revealed that 80 per cent of respondents felt that there are not enough toilets in public places for women. They expressed that clean toilets should be made mandatory at every petrol pump in the state. The first phase survey of ‘Women Voter Political Empowerment Review’ was conducted jointly by Stree Aadhar Kendra, Pune and Abasaheb Garware College (Autonomous), Department of Journalism and Public Awareness, Pune.. In this, the problems faced by women, their solutions and expectations from their candidates were studied, she added.
