Workshop on Latest technologies in climate change Friday

Thiruvananthapuram, July 13 (Representative) A wide range of time-tested, globally-accredited and latest technologies and innovations in climate change and sustainability will be presented and their regional applicability deliberated at an international workshop here on July 14. The workshop on ‘Impact Interventions in sustainability and climate change” will have interactions with researchers and domain experts in the broader context of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH), climate change mitigation and promoting sustainable development. Being held at Hyatt Regency in the city, it is structured as a highly engaging platform for researchers, experts, solution providers, government agencies and corporate partners to hold discussions on innovation, path-breaking technologies and implementation challenges. The event is organised by Bhouma Envirotech Pvt. Ltd, with the support of Suchitwa Mission, Kerala, and Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (KDISC). The workshop will start with the presidential address by Dr. K M Abraham, Executive Vice Chairperson, K-DISC, and Smt Sarada Muraleedharan, Additional Chief Secretary, LSGD, will deliver the inaugural address. M G Rajamanickam, Principal Director (LSGD) and Commissioner-Rural Development, will deliver the key-note address, followed by a special address by K T Balabhaskaran, Executive Director, Suchitwa Mission. United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13, which has a clear and firm stand on the need for urgent action to combat climate change and its impact worldwide, will be the framework of the deliberations.

The key themes to be deliberated by the workshop include Innovative and Decentralised Approach in Liquid Waste Management, Sanitation as a Service (SAAS), Soil Restoration, Waste to Resources and Micro Enterprises for Sanitation. A key theme of discussion is evolving practical solutions to address these challenges at the regional level and the need to come out with a research-oriented action plan which could make the best use of technology in addressing climate change impact. Dr. Srikanth Mutnuri, Dean, International Programmes and Collaboration Division, BITS Pilani will speak about the Innovative and Decentralized approach in Liquid Waste Management – Constructed Wet Lands & Other Waste Water Treatment Solutions. Dr. Arumugam Kalimuthu, Managing Trustee and Executive Director, WASH Institute, Delhi, will make a presentation on Sanitation as a Service (SAAS) – Story of MTU- the Vehicle-mounted Septage treatment solutions. Ms. Bincy Baby – Chairwoman, CII – IWN, Kerala & Sustainability Specialist will speak on Soil Restoration – Afforestation & Green Credits. Mr. Midhu Unnithan – Technology Officer, BacTreat Environmental Solutions LLP, Goa will introduce the innovations in Waste to Resources- Innovative Carbon Credit linked models- Quick Composting, Bio Char and Bio CNG. Ms. Srija Santhosh, Women Lead India Fellow, Reliance Foundation, India & Vital Voices, US and will speak on Micro Enterprises for Sanitation (MES), How to create one lakh livelihoods in Sanitation’.
