New Delhi, July 21 (Representative) Reacting to reports claiming Chinese constructing a village in east of Doklam plateau, the government on Thursday said that it keeps a constant watch over all developments having a bearing on national security. “Let me make a broader point particularly on Doklam. The government keeps a constant watch on all the developments having a bearing on India’s security and takes all necessary measures to safeguard the same,” said MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a briefing.
He was reacting to reports based on satellite images that the Chinese are constructing a village on the eastern side of Doklam plateau. Stressing over the need of disengagement in Eastern Ladakh, the Spokesperson said that such a step would be necessary to enable progress in relations between India and China. “Our point is a larger issue which is that if you can resolve the issues particularly on disengagement, that would held in de-escalation and help in restoration of peace and tranquility along the LAC. That would be the right step towards enabling progress in bilateral relations,” said Bagchi. The Indian Army and the Chinese PLA were locked in a bitter 73 day stand off at the Doklam area in 2017 when China attempted to build a road in the Bhutanese territory.
