Trade, defence ties discussed during PM Modi’s bilateral with Vietnamese counterpart

New Delhi/Hiroshima, May 20 (Agency) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held wide-ranging bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh during which they discussed enhancing ties in the fields of trade and investment, defence, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, among other things.The MEA spokesperson in a tweet said: “Propelling India-Vietnam ties to new levels. “Wide ranging talks between PM @narendramodi and PM Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam. “Leaders discussed expanding cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, defence, building resilient supply chains, energy, science & technology, human resource development, culture & people to people ties. “Talks also covered regional developments as well as ASEAN and cooperation in Indo-Pacific.”

The PMO in a tweet said: “Prime Ministers @narendramodi and Pham Minh Chinh held talks in Hiroshima. They discussed different aspects of India-Vietnam friendship, particularly in areas like energy, technology, commerce and defence.” An official statement said the two Prime Ministers met on the sidelines of G-7 Summit. “They noted the steady progress achieved in the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They agreed to enhance high level exchanges and deepen bilateral trade and investment ties. “They also discussed opportunities in the fields of defence, building resilient supply chains, energy, science and technology, human resource development, culture & people to people ties. “The leaders had a positive exchange of views on regional developments. They also discussed ASEAN and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. “Prime Minister briefed Prime Minister Chinh about India’s G-20 Presidency and the primacy given by India to highlight the perspectives and concerns of the Global South.”
