Una, Jan 20 (Representative) A second special train is all set to depart from Una on Monday, providing a vital transport link for pilgrims heading to the holy city of Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh. The train has garnered immense attention, as anticipation grows for the auspicious Mauni Amavasya royal bath on January 29, a ritual of great religious significance. The first special train, which left on February 23, witnessed an overwhelming response, with reserved coaches completely packed and a sea of devotees crowding the general coaches. The second train, scheduled to leave from Amb-Andaura railway station at 10:05 PM, is also experiencing a surge in demand, as evident from the long waiting lists—43 in the sleeper class and 31 in the AC three-tier class. To cater to the influx of pilgrims, the train has been equipped with ten general coaches, and tickets for these will be available at the station starting from 8:00 PM on the day of departure. The fare for general tickets has been set at a modest 275, ensuring affordability for all. The train will have a five-minute stoppage at Una and will depart for Prayagraj’s Phaphamau Junction at 10:35 PM, arriving the next evening at 6:00 PM. The return journey to Una will commence at 10:30 PM on Tuesday.
Religious fervour is at its peak as devotees from across the region prepare for the spiritually significant Mauni Amavasya. According to Hindu beliefs, bathing in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on this day is said to cleanse sins and pave the way for salvation. The demand for train services is not limited to the second special train. The fourth train from Una to Prayagraj, scheduled to run on February 9, already has a waiting list of 39 in the sleeper class and 36 in the AC class. Similarly, the fifth train on February 15 has 26 waiting in the sleeper class and 19 in AC, while the sixth and final train on February 23 sees 21 and 6 on the waiting list, respectively. The unprecedented enthusiasm reflects the deep-rooted faith and excitement of the pilgrims. Authorities are working to manage the expected rush, especially in general coaches, as the royal bath day draws closer. With thousands of pilgrims making their way to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh, these special trains have become a lifeline, ensuring a smooth journey to one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
