New Delhi, May 22 (Representative) Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions prevailing over plains of Northwest India, north Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat state will continue for the next 5 days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. “West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh will witness heat wave to severe heat wave conditions from May 22-26 and in isolated pockets of northwest Madhya Pradesh and Delhi from May 24-26,” the IMD said in its weather bulletin. “Heat wave conditions likely over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat state, northeast Madhya Pradesh till 26th May, over West Madhya Pradesh, Delhi on May 22nd and 23rd; Vidarbha during 23rd-26th May; East Uttar Pradesh during 24th-26th and north Madhya Maharashtra during 22nd-25th May,” the weather department said.The IMD also forecast that Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some parts of South Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maldives, Comorin area, South Bay of Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea today.
“Under this influence, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Kerala till May 25 with possibility of extremely heavy falls over Kerala today. Widespread light to moderate rainfall very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 7 days,” the IMD said. The weather department also forecasts isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds up to 40 kmph over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the same period.Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on 26 May, the IMD added. A low-pressure area has formed over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move northeastwards and concentrate into a Depression over the central parts of Bay of Bengal by the morning of 24th May, 2024. It is expected to move northeastwards, intensify further and reach the northeast & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by the 25th evening, the weather department said.
