Severe cold conditions likely to abate over NW India from Jan 11: IMD

New Delhi, Jan 10 (Agency) Cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected to decrease over Northwest India from January 11, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. The MeT department also predicted that dense fog will continue to prevail during the morning hours in isolated pockets of Northwest India for the next 4–5 days. According to IMD, the minimum temperature over several parts of Central and East India is likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next 3–4 days.“No cold wave conditions are likely over the country during the next 5 days,” the IMD said, adding that ground frost conditions are very likely over Uttarakhand on January 11 and 12. The IMD said, “Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over north Rajasthan on January 11 and 12, 2024, and reduction thereafter.”

Several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to witness dense fog conditions for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets during January 11–15, while Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to witness it on January 11 and 12.The IMD also forecasts that cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are very likely to continue in some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on January 10 and are likely to reduce to cold-day conditions in isolated pockets on January 11 and abate thereafter.Cold-day conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on January 10 and 11, 2024, and abate thereafter, the IMD said.
