Schools have to expand their roles to make education mass movement

New Delhi, Sep 3 (FN Bureau) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said schools have to expand their role to make education a mass movement and the school heads now need to play the role of education leaders to connect the schools more in the community. During an interaction with the school heads, Sisodia, who is also the education minister of Delhi, said that the learning environment should not be confined to the school’s boundary walls. “There is a need for our school heads to take education in Delhi to a new dimension by sharing the experiences and best practices of their schools amongst the community,” he stated while addressing a Custer Leadership Development (CLDP) program organized for the professional development and leadership upskilling of heads of government-run schools in Delhi on Friday.

Sisodia said that the programme will play a multifaceted role in the education ecosystem. “CLDP has made a significant contribution in creating a better education ecosystem. It has taken education to new heights but now there is a need to work beyond this. Now CLDP needs to be re-thought. CLDP is no longer confined to just a cluster of schools but has to move out of it and engage with the community. For this, our school heads have to play a role as education leaders. This will not only benefit the schools of a cluster but also the rest of the citizens living within the geographical radius of that cluster and an environment for education will be created in the entire region,” he added.

Speaking on the importance of CLDP, the education minister said that the programme has allowed school leaders to learn from each other’s experiences. “School heads now share any problem they face with their fellow in the cluster and get the issue resolved very soon. The training in CLDP has enabled the schools to manage efficiently, save time and focus more on teaching-learning activities,” he added. CLDP is an initiative by the Delhi government that provides a platform to the school heads where they can interact with their peers in school management, day-to-day schooling, through mutual discussion.
