Puri, June 20 (Agency) Renowned sand artist Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture with 250 coconuts in Puri beach on the occasion of Rath Yatra on Tuesday. Pattnaik has created a 6 feet high sand sculpture of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra and three chariots with the installation of about 250 coconuts.
In his sculpture, Pattnaik depicted the story of Dasia Bauri, a devotee of Mahaprabhu Jagannath. Legend says Dasia Bauri, a non-brahmin when not allowed to enter Sri Mandir offered coconut which Mahaprabhu accepted by himself. Pattnaik used about 5 tons of sand in erecting the sculpture.
