New Delhi, Apr 8 (Agency) Parts of East, Central and adjoining Peninsular India are expected to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds for the next 4-5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. According to IMD, “Scattered light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the next 7 days, with the possibility of heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday.” “Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph are very likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar today and will decrease in intensity thereafter,” the IMD said.
“East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra will also witness scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph from April 8 to 12,” the IMD said. The weather department also predicted isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm activity over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till April 14. The heat wave conditions will continue to prevail over parts of peninsular India during the next 24 hours and abate thereafter, the IMD said. It further predicted rainfall over Northwest India from April 13 to 15 under the influence of two fresh western disturbances.
