New Delhi, Aug 30 (FN Agency) President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the book titled ‘Requirement and Importance of the Upper House’ at the legislature’s Central Hall to mark the centenary of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on September 3. The President will also present the “Outstanding Parliamentarian” and “Outstanding Speech ” awards to selected members of both the Houses. According to the official press statement here on Friday, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rahul Narvekar, and Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe will also be present.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly, Maharashtra Branch, is the earliest branch established (1952) in the state legislatures of the country. Various educational and training activities for the members regarding parliamentary democracy are regularly conducted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Board, Maharashtra Branch.Since 1995, members of both houses have been honoured with the “Best Parliamentarian” and “Best Speech” awards every year. In this ceremony, Governor C P Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil, Assembly Deputy Speaker Narahari Jirwal, and Leaders of Opposition in both Houses Ambadas Danve and Vijay Wadettiwar will be present.
