Preventive steps to check Covid will not affect economy: Bommai

Belagavi, Dec 26 (FN Representative) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said preventive and precautionary measures to check the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic will be implemented in a phased manner without affecting the economy of common people.

Talking to reporters in Suvarna Soudha here, he said the State Cabinet discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and decided to discuss with Technical Advisory Committee members to create awareness among the people, ramp the booster dose, tests for ILI & SARI cases, mandatory wearing masks inside and in public and implement other preventive steps in a phased manner. Asked about issuing separate guidelines for New Year celebrations, the CM said like in previous years, this year also there will be certain rules. In the wake of the rise in Covid cases, some more points will be added to the existing guidelines.

However, precautionary measures will be implemented in stages without affecting the daily activities of citizens and the economy. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is holding a virtual meeting with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Covid-19 preparedness, situation, and awareness. Recently, IMA also issued an advisory and appealed to the public to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour with immediate effect. “As per the available reports, nearly 5.37 lakh new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours from major countries like the USA, Japan, South Korea, France and Brazil,” IMA said.
