New Delhi, Mar 24 (Agency) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed happiness at his meeting with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, and said they held extensive discussions on leveraging digital technology for a better and sustainable planet.In a tweet, he said: “Glad to have met @ITUSecGen Doreen Bogdan-Martin. We had extensive discussions on leveraging digital technology for a better and sustainable planet.” He was replying to Bogdan-Martin’s tweet, where she praised PM Modi and India for their leadership, and keeping connectivity and innovation high on the agenda. “I commend PM @narendramodi & India for their leadership, keeping connectivity + innovation high on the agenda, and for recognizing @ITU as G20 knowledge partner. “This 2023 SDG midpoint provides a much-needed opportunity for G20 countries to harness digital to rescue Global Goals,” she tweeted.
The ITU is a UN agency for digital tech, connecting the world through spectrum management, brokering standards and bridging the Digital Divide. She also said in a tweet, that ITU’s presence in the region will help in introducing advanced tech; improving capacity development; fostering entrepreneurship and partnerships, and responding to needs on the ground. “It will get @ITU closer to our members in Asia & Pacific – so we can serve them better,” she said.She termed the opening of a new ITU Area Office and Innovation Centre as a new chapter in the long and rich relationship between India and ITU. “To Leave No One Behind in the digital revolution also means finding new and innovative ways to provide reliable and affordable last-mile networks and services to unserved and under-served citizens. “Innovation is the catalyst we need to drive,” she posted.
