New Delhi/Port Moresby, June 14 (Agency) The USD one million of relief assistance sent by India to landslide-hit Papua New Guinea reached Port Moresby airport on Friday and was received by senior PNG officials, including the foreign and defence ministers who expressed gratitude for the aid.The High Commission of India in Port Moresby in a post on X said that Indian High Commissioner Inbasekar S handed over the material to Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko. “US$ 1 million HADR relief assistance, for victims of landslides in Enga province, from India reached Port Moresby airport; received by H.E. Justin Tkatchenko, PNG Foreign Minister, Dr. Billy Joseph, Defence Minister, Secy, PNG Dept of Foreign Affairs Mr. Wohengu & Enga Provincial Admr Tsaka. High Commr Inbasekar S handed over material to @TkatchenkoMP who felicitated @DrSJaishankar India for timely help. Relief will be dispatched to Wabag shortly. Vishvabandhu in action!” Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko thanked Prime Minister Modi, EAM Jaishankar and the people of India for the gesture.

Deep, and heartfelt, thank you India.” On Thursday, India sent 19 tonnes of relief supplies to landslide-hit Papua New Guinea comprising tents, water tanks, hygiene kits, ready to eat meals and medicine among other things. The aid also includes emergency use medicine, medical equipment including dengue and malaria diagnostic kits, baby food etc. On May 24, Papua New Guinea’s Enga region was hit with a massive landslide, with the national government reporting that more than 2,000 people have been buried alive, while a U.N. estimate put the death toll at around 670.
