Palghar, May 18 (Agency) A total of 337 houses have been damaged in Palghar district due to the heavy rains which were caused by the Cyclone Tauktae, the district authorities said on Tuesday. The District Collector Dr Manik Gursal said that of the 337 houses which were partially damaged; majority were in Dahanu taluka that was 200 houses.
The Collector also said that two school buildings one each in Palghar and Wada have also been damaged due to the rains and cyclone. Thirty-four electrical poles had been damaged, most of them in Talasari taluka. Two boats had been damaged. There have been two deaths in the district both in Vasai taluka. A total of 57 families comprising around 200 all from Vasai taluka had been evacuated during the rains and the cyclone, he said.
Superintending Engineer of the MSEDCL Kiran Nagavkar said that of the total 38 substations in the district, nine were affected due to the rains and cyclone. The restoration work was facing major road block as the trees have fallen on the supply lines, he said and added that every effort was being made to restore supplies. The CEO of the District Disaster Authority and RDC Dr Shivaji Patil told that three persons died in rain and cyclone related incidences in the district.
