New Delhi, Nov 15 (FN Agency) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday urged Indian Police Service (IPS) officer trainees to adopt technology for investigating and dealing with crime more effectively. Birla urged the Officer trainees to use technology more and more for speedy and qualitative results in investigation. In this regard, he mentioned that the three new bills relating to police and criminal laws, introduced during the last Session, once passed, would help them to discharge their responsibilities in a more effective manner. Birla inaugurated the Appreciation Course in Parliamentary Processes and Procedures for the 75th Batch of Officer Trainees of the Indian Police Service undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, organised by Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracy (PRIDE) in Parliament Premises, Lok Sabha Secretariat office communiqué said.
Congratulating the Officer Trainees on their selection to the prestigious service, Lok Sabha Speaker conveyed his optimism that they would discharge their responsibilities as custodians of justice and maintain law and order in the nation with utmost excellence. He emphasized that being chosen for the prestigious IPS was a testament to their dedication, intelligence and perseverance, as candidates who succeed in Union Public Service Commission examinations are globally recognized as outstanding in their respective fields. Stressing the importance of a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary procedures for the officials, Birla underlined the need for harmonious co-existence between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the democratic structure. He mentioned that while Parliament is entrusted with the responsibility of drafting laws to govern the nation, it is the duty of the police administration to execute these laws, ensuring that the envisioned benefits proposed by lawmakers come to fruition, the communiqué said. Acknowledging the vital role played by the police administration in maintaining law and order across the nation, Birla highlighted their immense responsibility in instilling public confidence especially during periods of public unrest and crises.
He also underlined the importance of the trust-building aspect between the police force and the public especially during times of crisis. He urged the Officer Trainees to ensure that justice, along with the safeguarding of the law and maintenance of public order, is a privilege accessible to everyone in society, regardless of their social, economic, or political status, it said. Touching on the vital role of transparency and accountability in police administration, the Speaker highlighted that accountability and transparency are paramount to safeguard citizens’ rights. “By openly sharing information on policies and procedures, a transparent police administration actively involves the society in enhancing public safety and strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the people it serves,” said Birla.
