Bhubaneswar, Oct 18 (FN Bureau) Odisha known for its rich natural resources, strategic location, and leadership in the mining and metals sector, is now emerging as a key player in Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said. Addressing the IndiaChem 2024 in Mumbai on Friday, Majhi said the Chemicals and Petrochemicals sector in Odisha is ready for exponential growth, supported by increasing demand from core industries such as steel, aluminum, and petrochemicals. He said “Our chemicals and petrochemicals ecosystem are built on a solid foundation with the presence of companies like IOCL, Paradeep Phosphates, and IFFCO among others. The Chief Minister said Odisha has developed world-class infrastructure that caters to the needs of industries looking to invest and grow. The PCPIR Paradeep, located near Paradeep Port is driving Odisha’s ambitions in this sector, he said, adding that this industrial hub integrates a robust supply chain, connecting industries to global markets.
Majhi said under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, we stand here today on the threshold of a new era—Purvodaya, the resurgence of Eastern India. Odisha is poised to be at the forefront of this new journey towards a Viksit Bharat and the state is ready to play a key role in driving India’s industrial growth,the Chief Minister stated. Stating that Odisha is diversifying into further high-potential areas, Majhi said the state is actively promoting investments in Technical textiles and recycling of by-products, which offer promising growth. Majhi further said Odisha has already seen significant investments from country’s leading companies in the chemicals and allied sectors. Chemical Companies like Grasim, Berger Paints, Shalimar Paints and Plastics Sector Leaders like Supreme, Ashirvad, Astral, Syntex, Shrichakra Polyplast etc have expanded their operations in the state, contributing to the growth of downstream industries and creating opportunities across the value chain.
Furthermore, key players in technical textiles like EPIC and MAS groups, explosives manufacturers like Premier Explosives and CDET, and specialty chemicals manufacturers like Eternis, Epsilon, Sanvira, Silox, Epigral, Himadri, Kiri Industries, VCI chemicals, and others have also found Odisha to be a conducive environment for growth. The Chief Minister said the investments from the industrial houses are helping Odisha build a diversified chemicals sector that caters to a wide range of industrial needs. Majhi claimed that the state’s strategic location on the east coast of India, coupled with the availability of skilled labour and industrial infrastructure, gives us an edge and a bright future in the chemicals and petrochemicals sector. He further said as global demand for chemicals continues to rise, Odisha is well-positioned to play a key role in meeting this demand, not just for India, but for the world. The Chief Minister invited the industrial houses to explore the opportunities that Odisha offers and become a part of our growth story. He said the state government is organizing the “Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025”, the state’s flagship Global Investors Summit in Bhubaneswar, January 28 and 29 ,2025.
