New Delhi, April 12 (Agency) The heatwave will continue in the national capital region and there will be no respite on Tuesday as the India Meteorological Department predicts the maximum will settle around 42 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season’s average. On Monday, maximum temperature was recorded at 42.6 degree Celsius, the highest in the month of April in last five years. The all-time highest maximum temperature for the month was 45.6 degrees Celsius on April 29, 1941.
The maximum temperature was expected to fall slightly during the week, the IMD earlier said as its scientist RK Jenamani, had forecast “the mercury is likely to drop to around 40 degrees on Tuesday owing to partly cloudy skies in parts of Delhi. This will reduce the impact of the heat somewhat. “On Wednesday and Thursday, it will be around 39 degrees, before it begins to rise once again from Friday onwards. The brief respite will be due to a western disturbance over northwest India,” he added. “This will bring clouds over Delhi that can bring down the maximum temperature by 1-2 degrees over most places. Jenamani said, adding that there will be no rain, though.
