Hyderabad, July 5 (Agency) Telangana GovernorTamilisai Soundararajan, on Tuesday emphasised the need for collective action to protect and develop tribal communities living in remote and hilly areas. Addressing the gathering in Telugu, paying tribute to the great freedom fighter and strong advocate of social justice, Dr Tamilsai said that Alluri Sitarama Raju, also known as Manyam Veerudu (Hero of Jungle) by historians. The Governor accompanied President Droupadi Murmu , who participated in the event at Gachibowli Stadium, here, emphasized that celebrating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju with various programs and events is a fitting tribute, especially during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, she highlighted that “Great things can be achieved only with great sacrifices.”
Alluri is renowned for the sacrifices he made to protect the interests and rights of the Tribes, preserving their freedom and culture, she said in the face of British exploitation and oppression, Alluri empowered the powerless and voiceless Tribals of Vishakhapatnam and East Godavari districts. He (Alluri) inspired and organized the tribal people, leading them in a war against British rule as early as 1922, she said his bravery and revolutionary spirit made him one of the most inspiring figures in the fight for freedom. The Governor acknowledged the efforts of the respective governments in implementing special schemes for the development of tribals over the past 75 years of Independence.
