Mumbai, Oct 18 (Agency) With India accounting for nearly 15 per cent of the global mental health burden and nearly 15 crore Indians (more than 10 per cent of the population) in need of mental health services, the panellists stressed on importance of bringing it under Employees’ Risk Cover –- so that it is taken seriously and gets budgeted accordingly. While deliberating on the topic: “Is Investing in Mental Health a Good Business?” here on Tuesday, the panellists, involving HR heads of all leading corporates, highlighted importance of mental health in the workplace and urged businesses to take action.
The discussions painted a concerning picture of mental health issues in India, which is paying a particularly high toll for unaddressed mental health issues. According to National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS), less than 20 per cent of them are seeking care.As per WHO data, India loses an estimated one per cent of its GDP to mental health issues, a press release said here.
