Bhubaneswar, Mar 12 (FN Representative) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a futuristic and modern jail under the 5T initiative at Jamujhari near Bhubaneswar Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said “This is a momentous occasion that heralds the beginning of a new era for the prison administration”. He said for too long, outdated and overcrowded prison facilities have provided limited scope for reforms and have been a stumbling block in our efforts to provide a humane and safe environment for the inmates.
The new Model Jail, Patnaik said, has been designed to address these concerns. The Jail, which is being done under the 5-T initiative, will be futuristic. A lot of research and study of many prisons has been done before preparing the plan for this transformational prison. The new modern jail, he said will be completely automated, with state-of-art security features, IP-based surveillance, e-court rooms, multiple VC facilities, amongst many such facilities. Patnaik said it will be an environmentally friendly prison with net-zero carbon emission, and zero discharge and will have separate wards for each category of inmates.
The Model Jail will provide to the inmates with vastly improved living conditions and easy access to essential health care and educational resources. The programme was organised in virtual mode, 5T & Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian moderated the program. Odisha Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, DG Prisons A.M Prasad, and Additional DG Amitabh Thakur were among others present at Jamujhari.
