Mocha moving northwards during the past six hours

New Delhi, May 12 (FN Representative) Severe Cyclonic Storm “Mocha” moved northwards with a speed of 09 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centred on Friday over the Central adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. It lay centred about 520 km west-northwest of Port Blair, 1010 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and 930 km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar). Even though the direction of the storm has turned towards Bangladesh, the Disaster Management Department does not want to let down the warning. NDRF team has arrived in Sundarbans to deal with the situation when Cyclone Mocha hits. Mocha’s impact may fall on the coastal areas of South 24 Parganas i.e. Sundarbans. With that in mind, a 25-member NDRF team is already in Gosaba to deal with the disaster.

NDRF team members reached Gosaba on Thursday. On Friday, they dispersed to different areas. For now they will work to make the people of the area aware. If a disaster occurs, the members of this team will try to reach the spot quickly and deal with the situation. Besides, the Gosaba block administration said the control room has already been opened. The whole area is being monitored. On the other hand, the work of repairing the weak river embankments is going on under the supervision of the Irrigation Department. Besides, flood shelters have been prepared, dry food has also been stocked. Along with Gosaba, NDRF members also started miking in Kakdwip, Namkhana areas this morning.
