Mid-day meal : BJP leader Teena Sharma files police complaint against Atishi Marlena

New Delhi, Aug 28 (Agency) BJP leader Teena Kapoor Sharma on Monday filed a police complaint against Delhi Education Minister Atishi Marlena over the food poisoning issue after eating mid-day meal by students of a school. The complaint was filed at Parliament Police Station in New Delhi and alleged that “This incident is the direct result of negligence and misconduct on the part of the Education Minister.” “It is the responsibility of the Education Ministry to ensure the safety and well-being of students by maintaining appropriate food quality standards and strict monitoring of food preparation procedures”, the complaint letter said. “However, this incident reveals a blatant disregard for the health and safety of our children,” it said.

The BJP leader requested the authorities to take “appropriate measures” against Atishi Marlena to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future”. On Friday, around 70 students fell ill after allegedly consuming the mid-day meal at a school in Southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur. As per Delhi Police, around 70 boys of classes 6 and 8 had started vomiting after consuming their mid-day meal at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya School in Durga Park, Sagarpur. “We urge you to hold Atishi Marlena accountable for her alleged negligence in implementing effective monitoring mechanisms to prevent such crises” as per the complaint letter. Meanwhile, a case has been registered and the Delhi government has issued a show-cause notice to the mid-day meal provider at the school. “The provider has been asked to respond within 24 hours. Strict action will be taken against those who will be found guilty. All mid-day meal providers have been warned,” an official said, adding that all the children are stable.
