Bhubaneswar, Sep 2 (FN Agency) A low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal which will likely trigger heavy rains in Odisha, IMD sources here said. It said a cyclonic circulation lies over Northeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height persists. The cyclonic circulation is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around Sunday and under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form during subsequent 48 hours. Current meteorological features indicate fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Odisha during next five days. The Met sources further said thunderstorms with lightning activity are very likely during the next three days.
It is advised that people to take shelter in safer places during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning. Light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of north Odisha, the IMD said and issued yellow warnings to as many as 22 districts in the state. Meanwhile, heavy and intense rains lashed the capital city of Bhubaneswar for hours on Saturday bringing normal life to a grinding halt. Several low lying areas of the city were flooded with knee deep water due to incessant rains.
