New Delhi, July 12 (Agency) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealing for the Centre’s intervention regarding Delhi’s flood situation. He appealed to the Centre to release only controlled levels of water from Hathni Kund so that Delhi does not flood further. Kejriwal said the Yamuna has already reached 207.55 metres, which is way above the danger mark of 205.33 metres at the Old Railway Bridge. As per experts, by tonight Yamuna will reach 207.72 metres, highest in the history recorded so far.
Till now the highest recorded level of the Yamuna was 207.49 metres, which was recorded in 1978, the Chief Minister office communique said. CM said that the water is being released from Haryana towards Delhi needs to be controlled to prevent further flooding, it said. Delhi has not seen heavy rains for the last three days, Yamuna levels are rising due to abnormally large amounts of water being released from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana, Kejriwal said. Delhi is going to host G20 Summit soon and the host city being flooded itself won’t send a good message to the world, said Kejriwal.
