Kejriwal unveils ‘Winter Action Plan’ to combat pollution crisis in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 4 (FN Representative) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday a 10-point “winter action plan” to tackle air pollution in Delhi that includes the formation of teams to check garbage burning, dust and vehicular emissions. Distribution of decomposer solution to reduce stubble pollution, installation of smog towers, setting up green war-room, Anti-dust campaign, vigilance teams to check garbage burning and ban on firecrackers are among the measures the Union territory government would follow in the Winter Action Plan.

“75 teams will be deployed for the inspection of construction sites to check dust pollution while special teams will monitor pollution hotspots in the city,” Kejriwal informed. “Steps will also be taken to address the traffic jam on 64 identified roads to reduce vehicular pollution. The pollution under control (PUC) will be strictly followed with the formation of 500 teams to check the vehicles,” he added. Kejriwal also informed that a total of 250 teams have been formed to enforce a ban on garbage burning in the city. “Also, strengthening of green war rooms and a mass awareness campaign will be part of the winter action plan,” the CM said. Steps will also be taken to address the traffic jam on 64 identified roads to reduce vehicular pollution. “500 teams by Delhi Traffic Police will strictly check the pollution fitness of the vehicles to control the vehicular emissions,” he said further. Meanwhile, Kejriwal appealed to neighbouring states and the Centre to implement similar measures of pollution control. He said the Union Government and neighbouring states have not done anything so far to check stubble burning by farmers which will lead to air pollution in the winter season.
