New Delhi, April 13 (FN Agency) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a senior citizen Home for the destitute elders of the national capital on Tuesday. Named after Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Senior Citizen Home in Kanti Nagar, the old age home is full of modern facilities and will provide a homely atmosphere to the elderly, the minister said. “From today, a luxurious senior citizen home is known as the ‘Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Senior Citizen Niwas’ has opened in Delhi. It will take care of the elderly who have no one as their own son and help them lead a life of honour,” Kejriwal started on the occasion. The minister said the residence will have access to cutting-edge amenities free of cost. “We have ensured that they receive all the homelike facilities, so that they do not feel the lack or loneliness of moving out of their homes.
I hope and pray that there is no need for old age homes in future, and that everyone gets to live happily in their homes with their children looking after them,” Kejriwal informed. “We will ensure that all those who reside in these senior citizen homes will also be taken on the pilgrimage tours of their choice,” he added The five-storey old-age home has 117 rooms, out of which 81 rooms are for men, while 36 rooms are for women. Free accommodation, food, clothes, bedding, TV-radio, books, entertainment centre with bhajan-kirtan program, health & physiotherapy, and more such facilities will be available for the elderly, according to the Delhi Government. Kejriwal announced at the event that the Delhi Government will send senior citizens living in old age homes on pilgrimage free of cost. “The Delhi government sends senior citizens on ‘tirth yatra’. The yatra could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic outbreak. But it has restarted now. We will send all senior citizens from old age homes on tirth yatra,” he said.
Under the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana, senior citizens of Delhi can go on pilgrimages at the government’s expense. The CM also informed that four old age homes have already been inaugurated in Delhi, while the construction work for eight more buildings is in progress, informed the CM. Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said a new for senior citizens is coming up in Paschim Vihar and will be ready in three months According to the social welfare department, four senior citizen residences at Bindapur, Wazirpur, Tahirpur and newly inaugurated in Kantinagar, are already catering to the destitute elderly while eight more at Chittaranjan Park, Rohini, Paschim Vihar, Geeta Colony, Chhatarpur, Janakpuri, Sarita Vihar and Vasant Kunj are under construction.
