Jammu, Sep 20 (Representative) Adding yet another feather to its cap, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu has introduced paediatric surgeries for infants and children. The Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta on Thursday shared, “We recently had the privilege of performing three paediatric surgeries on children aged 11 months to under 18 years. These delicate procedures included a right orchidopexy for an 11-month-old infant and two corrective surgeries for congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV), commonly known as clubfoot.” “Each surgery was performed with precision, care, and dedication by our expert team and despite the complexity of these procedures, our team remained steadfast in their commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for every young patient,” said the CEO AIIMS. He explained, “We treated a one-year-old male infant with a right-sided undescended testis. After initial tests, we successfully performed surgery to move the testis into the scrotum. Timely surgery is the key to preserving future function and preventing complications. The patient is now stable.” For the other two surgeries, Prof. Gupta said, “This is a big step forward in improving paediatric orthopedic care at the hospital, helping children with conditions like DDH, angular deformities, and clubfoot, lead healthy, active lives. Early diagnosis and treatment are key, and parents should consult specialists for any orthopaedic concerns.
The Orthopaedics Department at AIIMS Jammu will provide all necessary specialized surgeries for children.” “These surgeries mark the beginning of a new chapter in the healthcare landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. With each successful procedure, we reaffirm our commitment to offering world-class medical care to the region’s youngest and most vulnerable patients. The ripple effect of these treatments will be felt not just within individual families, but across communities as we help to build a healthier future for the next generation,” he said. The Director extended congratulations to the entire team for successfully performing the important procedures. The skilled efforts of Dr. Vijay Kundal, Dr. Akshat Sudhanshu, and the dedicated Paediatric Surgery team, along with the support of the Anaesthesia team led by Dr. Raksha Kundal, Dr Sandeepika Dogra, Dr Anu Hansa, and our exceptional nursing officers, Disha and Diksha, exemplify the commitment and excellence AIIMS strives for.The Director appreciated the efforts of Dr Amit Thakur, Office In-Charge of the Orthopaedic Department, for his continuous support in ensuring the smooth execution of the procedures.

Keep up the outstanding work!” Through our efforts, we hope to transform the healthcare narrative in J&K, providing families with the confidence that their children can receive the highest standard of medical care right here, at home. This is just the beginning. AIIMS Jammu remains steadfast in its mission to enhance healthcare access, ensuring that every child has the chance to grow up healthy and every family has the joy of seeing their loved ones thrive. In a similar vein, when you heal one child, you bring new life and hope to an entire family. The impact of restoring a child’s health extends beyond that child alone—it enriches the lives of parents, siblings, and all who love them.”
