Guwahati, Nov 22 (Agency) The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will be dredging at 88 locations along the Brahmaputra, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said on Tuesday here. Sonowal reviewed the progress of 25 projects worth Rs 1,100 crore being implemented in the last two years in the North Eastern Region under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Addressing the media at the end of the review meeting, he said that as per the study of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the depth of water had decreased at 88 places in the Brahmaputra River.
For which the concerned department has been directed to dig at 88 places in this Brahmaputra river to facilitate the movement of ships. Sonowal said that the concerned departments have been directed to complete the projects already implemented in the last two years in the North East under the Ministry of AYUSH, Ports, Shipping and Waterways by January next year. The work on those projects which have not been started yet has been ordered to be started from January next year, he added. He informed that the construction of the Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital in Dibrugarh will begin in December. The Central Government has approved the setting up of 100 Ayush Pharmacies in Assam. Also, 33 Ayush hospitals and 4 Ayurvedic colleges have been approved, he added.
