India’s power supply to Bangladesh to start on Dec 16

Dhaka, Nov 17 (Agency) Gautam Adani, CEO of Adani Group, has commented that India’s Godda power transmission to Bangladesh will start from the upcoming Victory Day (December 16). He made the comment in a tweet Wednesday. Godda is now working day and night to fulfill that promise.Adani assured the same in a private meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Delhi last September. The power plant located in Godda in the Indian state of Jharkhand has been dogged by many controversies since its inception. Due to various reasons including covid, the commissioning deadline of this plant has been delayed many times. But the officials of Adani Industrial Group are saying with great confidence that they will be able to start producing and supplying electricity in just one month in this plant built on “Ultra Supercritical Technology”.According to the agreement signed by the Government of Bangladesh with the Adani Group in August 2016, the entire 1600 MW (2 × 800) electricity generated at Godda will be exported to Bangladesh.Government of India has already given special permission for it long ago.

In fact, Goddai is India’s first ‘stand-alone’ power plant which has been given all the facilities of a ‘Special Economic Zone’ and is not sending electricity to the state of Jharkhand but sending it abroad. It is expected that Godda Power Plant’s electricity will come as good news especially in the power crisis that has occurred in Bangladesh in the last few months.Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (which is Adani Industrial Group’s ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’ or SPV for Godda) Head of Corporate Affairs Amritankshu Prasad said, ‘We will be able to send 800 MW from Godda’s first unit to Bangladesh on the 16th of next month. It may take another three months to send another 800 MW from the second unit. As a result, it is expected that the entire 1600 MW production of Godda can be sent to Bangladesh by March 2023.According to the data of PDB (Power Development Board) of Bangladesh, the total daily electricity production in Bangladesh was about 12 thousand MW in last July, while the daily demand of the country is about 14 thousand MW. As a result, the figure of electricity shortage is about two thousand megawatts or so.Now if the full production of Godda starts coming in, it will be possible to meet about one third of this shortfall. As a result, it is considered to be very useful in dealing with the electricity crisis and load shedding in Bangladesh.
