Indian Navy’s warship at Russian port takes part in naval exercises

New Delhi, Jul 30 (Bureau) The 12th edition of Indo-Russian ‘India Navy’ exercise was successfully held in the Russian Baltic Sea with the participation of stealth warship INS Tabar. The two-day biennial maritime exercise with Russians was successfully concluded at the port of St. Petersbury, Russia, on July 29. Spokesperson for the Indian Navy said despite constrains imposed due to COVID19 pandemic situation, about 300 officers and sailors onboard INS Tabar conducted themselves in the highest traditions of navy. The Russian Federation Navy was represented by Corvettes RFS Zelyony Dol and RFS Odintsovo of the Baltic Fleet.

Held once every two years, the ‘Indira Navy’ exercise has matured over the years with increase in scope, complexity of operations and level of participation. The primary aim of this year’s edition is to further consolidate inter-operability built up by the two Navies over the years and also to enhance understanding and procedures for multi-faceted maritime operations. INS Tabar is a fast moving frigate warship having stealth technology equipment. It has been on a long range deployment at the sea since June 13 last month and is scheduled to visit a number of ports in Africa and Europe till its voyage comes to end sometime in September next. The ship is commanded by Captain M Mahesh and is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command.
